What we do

Supply, fitting and a proper look

We supply and fit tyres for everyday cars and for hybrids. Tell us the make and model and what sort of driving you do and we will talk through the choices with you.

If you are not sure whether you need new tyres at all, bring the car in. We will look at what you have and tell you honestly where they stand.

Signs a tyre needs replacing

When it is time for new tyres

01

Worn tread

Tread is what clears water from under the tyre. As it wears the car grips less well in the wet and takes longer to stop.

02

Cracks or bulges

Cracking in the sidewall or a bulge means the tyre structure is compromised. Do not wait on these.

03

Uneven wear

One edge wearing faster than the other can point to a suspension or steering issue as well as the tyre itself.

04

Vibration or pulling

A shake through the steering wheel or a pull to one side deserves a look sooner rather than later.

The legal minimum

How much tread is enough

NZTA sets a minimum tread depth of 1.5mm. It is measured in the principal grooves around the whole tyre. The tyre also has to be in good condition overall.

NZTA also advises that you replace tyres once the tread reaches that depth, even if they have passed a WOF. Tyres at the minimum give far less wet-weather grip than newer ones, so there is a good reason not to run them that low. See NZTA’s tyre guidance (opens in a new tab) for the full detail and the WOF page for how tyres feature in an inspection.

Simple habits that make tyres last

  • Check the pressure regularly, including the spare if you carry one
  • Look at the tyres for cuts, bulges or objects stuck in the tread
  • Have the car looked at if it starts pulling or vibrating
  • Ask us for a quick check whenever the car is in for something else

Tyre questions

Can you fit tyres for a hybrid?

Yes. We fit tyres for everyday and hybrid vehicles. Mention the model when you call.

How do I check my tread?

Most tyres have small tread wear indicators moulded into the main grooves. When the tread is level with them the tyre has reached its limit. If you are unsure, bring it in and we will have a look.

Will worn tyres fail a WOF?

Tyre condition is part of every WOF inspection, so yes, tyres below the minimum or in poor condition will fail. See the WOF page.
