Car diagnostics in Addington, Christchurch
A warning light tells you something is wrong but not what. DAS AUTO finds the fault and explains it in language that makes sense.

What a scan tool can and cannot do
When a warning light comes on the car stores a fault code. A scan tool reads that code and it points to the system where the problem is. It is a starting point and not a verdict.
The code might say a sensor is reporting a reading outside the normal range. The cause might be the sensor, the wiring or something else upstream. That is why we follow the code with testing and do not simply replace whatever it names.
Engine, electrical and hybrid faults
Engine faults
Rough running, loss of power, poor economy and engine warning lights.
Electrical faults
Charging issues, lighting problems and systems that stop working. See also auto electrical.
How we explain what we find
Finding the fault is only half the job. The other half is telling you about it in terms you can follow. We explain what has failed and what it affects. We say how urgent it is and what your options are.
You leave knowing what is going on with your car and not just holding an invoice.
What to do right away
A steady warning light is a prompt to book a check soon. If a light is flashing, or the car is running badly or feels unsafe, pull over when it is safe and call a workshop. Do not carry on driving a car that is clearly unwell.
Once you have a diagnosis, the repair usually sits with mechanical repairs. Warning lights can also affect a WOF, so it is worth sorting them first.
Diagnostics questions
Is a diagnosis the same as a repair?
No. Diagnosis finds the cause. You then decide whether to go ahead with the repair.
Can you diagnose a hybrid?
Yes. Hybrid faults are part of what we diagnose.
Will you explain the result?
Yes. We explain the fault, how urgent it is and what your options are.
