Two kinds of service

Interim or full, in plain English

01

Interim service

A shorter, more frequent service that suits cars doing a lot of kilometres or older cars that need regular attention between bigger jobs. It keeps the basics fresh and gives us a chance to spot trouble early.

02

Full service

A more thorough service that follows the schedule for your particular car. It goes further than an interim and brings extra items into scope when they are due.

What each service includes depends on the car and how it is used. We explain what we recommend before work starts so that you are never guessing what you are paying for.

Signs you are due

How to tell a service is overdue

  • A warning light or service reminder has come on
  • The engine sounds rougher or louder than it used to
  • The car feels slower or uses more fuel
  • You can smell something burning or see fluid under the car
  • It has been a long time since the last service and you are not sure when
What we look at

What happens when your car comes in

We check the engine oil and filter and the levels of the other fluids. We look over the tyres, brakes and lights and we inspect belts and hoses where they can be seen. Anything that needs attention is explained to you in everyday language, with the urgent items separated from the ones that can wait.

If something turns up that needs more investigation we may suggest diagnostics or mechanical repairs. You decide what goes ahead.

Service history

Why a clear record matters

A car with a clear record of regular servicing is easier to look after and easier to sell. Buyers like to see that the work was done and when. We keep the paperwork straightforward so that the history makes sense to the next owner as well as to you.

If your car has a WOF coming up, a service first is a good idea. A WOF does not look at oil or the condition of the engine, which a service does. Read more on the WOF page.

Servicing questions

How often should I get my car serviced?

Your owner’s manual gives the schedule for your car. Cars that do a lot of short trips or heavy driving often benefit from servicing more often. If you are not sure, call us and we will talk it through.

Do you service hybrids?
Will you call before doing extra work?

Yes. If we find something that was not part of the booking we explain it and you decide.
